Sonia Story, M.S. developed the Brain and Sensory Foundations program to provide in-depth, comprehensive training in the use of innate rhythmic movements, primitive reflex integration, postural reflexes, and integrative movements that support reflex integration.
Sonia is the author of the Evidence eBook and a white paper giving the relevance, rationale, and evidence basis for using innate neurodevelopmental movements in OT and PT practice. Sonia’s white paper was reviewed at the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) as excellent for showing the relevance of innate neurodevelopmental movements to the practice of physical therapy.
Sonia Story earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a combined major in biology and psychology and a Master's degree in Movement Science. She studied two bodywork systems—Orthobionomy and Hanna Somatics—which influenced her application of neurodevelopmental movements. Sonia extensively studied innate neurodevelopmental movements with Harald Blomberg, MD; Moira Dempsey; Svetlana Masgutova; and other instructors. While earning certifications to teach Rhythmic Movement Training (RMTi) and other movement courses, Sonia maintained a private practice effectively using these tools for helping individuals of all ages, with a focus on school-age children. Sonia Story taught the RMTi curriculum for 10 years and has been teaching the Brain and Sensory Foundations curriculum since 2008.
Sonia is influenced by further training in Developmental Movement, Nonviolent Communication, and Storytelling with Children. She has studied with Bill Hubert of Bal-A-Vis-X, and with O. Fred Donaldson, PhD, author and developer of Original Play.
Sonia’s work has been featured in the book, Almost Autism: Recovering Children from Sensory Processing Disorder, and in the books Special Ed Mom Survival Guide; Family Health Revolution; and Same Journey, Different Paths, Stories of Auditory Processing Disorder.
Sonia is particularly sensitive to the issues and challenges that families are faced with today. In her own life, and with her children, family, clients, students and colleagues, Sonia continues to see the profound benefits of doing neurodevelopmental movements, and she loves to share these life-changing tools with others.
